Can hospitals cope with a surge in cases this winter?

The country is said to be facing a tipping point in our fight against covid-19. On Sunday night, 430 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus were confirmed – the highest figure reported in a single day since April. In Clare, an additional 12 cases were confirmed – the highest daily figures since May. Yesterday, a further 390 cases were confirmed.

Outside of Dublin, University Hospital Limerick now has the highest number of confirmed cases of COVID-19. There are 7 confirmed cases of the virus among patients at the hospital, with 1 of them being treated in the intensive care unit.
