Clare County Council Adapting To Climate Concerns

A study of local authorities and their climate friendly policies and practices says that they’re generally slow to adapt.

It showed that less than half of them use electric or hybrid vehicles for day-to-day operations, just 12 of Ireland’s 31 local authorities have a tree management policy and 14 measure water usage in their buildings.

It’s from the first-ever national report of local authorities climate actions and carried out by the Local Government Management Agency.

It looked at actions between 2011 and 2018 – crucially pre-dating last year’s government National Climate Action Plan, which highlights local authorities as leads in 30 actions under the plan.

Pat Dowling, Chief Executive, Clare County Council and Cyril Feeney, Senior Engineer, Environment & Water Department joined Gavin.
