Clare greyhound owner Leonard McNamara refutes claims that welfare abuse is widespread

If you were listening last week, you may have heard a couple of in-depth reports we had on the welfare of greyhounds. These featured the Clare Greyhound Sanctuary, which re-homes retired dogs and those deemed unsuitable for sport, and saves significant numbers from being put down.

Morning Focus producer, Fiona McGarry, who spoke to Petra Meyer who runs the sanctuary also heard from Ger Dollard, DEO of the Irish Greyhound Board about efforts to tighten regular and improve welfare.

Today she’s been speaking to a local man who is passionate about the greyhounds he keeps, and that’s Leonard McNamara from Ballynacally
who is the Former Chairperson of the Ennis/Clarecastle Coursing Club.
