Clare Mayor Boycotting RIC Commemoration

Today on Morning Focus, we heard from the Mayor of Clare, Cathal Crowe as he has criticised the holding of a commemorative event remembering the Royal Irish Constabulary.

The force, which policed Ireland under British rule, is due to be commemorated at an event in Dublin Castle on Friday week, which will be attended by Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan and Garda Commissioner Drew Harris.

As Mayor of Clare, Fianna Fail Cllr and General Election candidate Cllr Crowe was invited to attend – but has declined, saying it is “historical revisionism gone too far”.
