Ennis woman Trudy leyden threw her name into the hat on Friday, announcing her intention to run as an Independent.
Leyden is a Fine Gael activist but says that she was left without a choice as she wanted to run for the Dail, but there was no space on the Fine Gael ticket.
She spoke to Gavin on Tuesday.
