Under 21 Hurling Draw Deferred as Under 17s Cleared To Play

The draws for this year’s under 21 county hurling championship has been deferred after a lengthy debate at last night’s County Board meeting.

Confusion reigned after correspondence from Croke Park suggested players must have passed their 17th birthday before partaking in adult competitions.

However, a rule amendment at last year’s congress classified under 21 as an underage tournament.

With some clubs still uncertain about their status, the draws were deferred until next Monday.

Chairman Joe Cooney says delegates decided to allow under 17s take part.
