Antrim Take Venue Argument To Top Level of GAA

Antrim County Board have taken their argument for a venue change for the All Ireland Under 21 Hurling final against Clare to the top level of the GAA.

The Saffrons are calling on the GAA president Liam O’Neill to intervene in the row, as they say it is unfair to expect their supporters to travel to Semple Stadium in Thurles for the final on September 14th.

In 2011 Central council made a decision that all under 21 finals would be played in the Thurles ground, as long as Tipperary were not involved, and the Central Competitions Control Committee cannot overrule that decision.

It means the GAA President would have to call a meeting of the Central Council to address the issue.

Antrim PRO Brendan Mulgrew says a change of venue is in the best interest of the promotion of the game, and he doesn’t think Clare supporters would object to a change.
