Brilliant Banner Claim League Honours With Kildare Comeback

Clare have won silverware at Croke Park for the first time in over a decade, as they beat Kildare to claim the Allianz League Division 3 title over Kildare.

A late Dean Ryan goal helped the Banner overcome a late deficit, and deservedly claim the honours at Croke Park.

Clare started slowest, with a Neil Flynn goal helping Kildare to an early six-point lead.

However, a David Tubridy goal was crucial as Clare fought back to take a 1-10 to 1-09 lead in at half-time.  Clare's lead could have been even bigger at this stage, but for some chances which were agonizingly close to adding more goals to their tally.

The second-half was largely a close affair, with both sides enjoying the lead at different times.

Kildare took a three-point lead into the 70th minute, however, but this was erased when Gary Brennan rose high into the air, won a ball on the edge of the square, and set up Dean Ryan for a close-range finish.

Points followed from Enda Coughlan and Eoin Cleary were enough to see Clare over the line, despite a Graham Kelly red card.

Colm Collins' side claimed the League title on a scoreline of 2-17 to 1-19.
