Clare will play either Cork or Kerry next Thursday in a play- off for a semi final place in the Munster Minor Championship after suffering defeat to Waterford in Cusack park last evening.

The home side trailed by two points at the break, 1-8 to 1-6, Bobby Duggan with five frees and Shane O’Donnell’s 3rd minute goal keeping Clare in touch.

The defending champions got the perfect start to the second half when Duggan scored a goal after just 90 seconds.

However the Deise fought back and  the sides were level after 60 minutes, Stephen Bennet’s two scores in additional time cancelling out Shane O’Donnell’s second goal of the game after 57 minutes.

With the sun setting in Cusack Park, Waterford led by three at the interval in extra time before Clare through Duggan, Conor Deasy and Duggan had the teams level by 80 minutes.

Then up popped corner forward Cathal Curran to loft over the winner 2 minutes into four of additional time before referee Fergal Horan blew the final whistle in an absorbing encounter.

Clare centre forward Shane Liddy only lasted 12 minutes before being stretchered off with a serious leg injury while Conor Cleary played through the pain barrier in extra time with a hip problem-the home side also guilty of 15 wides during the match

Clare now have less than a week to get ready for another Minor clash while Waterford advance to the Munster Semi Finals in June.
