Clare out of U21 Hastings Cup

Clare's involvement in the U21 Hastings Cup has reached a premature end.

The Banner were due to play Leitrim in a rescheduled first round game this coming weekend, but were informed the Connacht side had opted to take the points on offer rather than allow the fixture go ahead.

This leaves Clare unable to qualify for the knockout stages.

It's after initial confusion surrounding Clare's participation in the preseason tournament, as they were due to play in a four team Munster league which failed to be sanctioned by Croke Park.

This meant the Neil Hawes and Michael O'Shea trained side failed to fulfill the first round fixture against Leitrim, but there had been an understanding in place that this game would be refixed.

Joint manager Michael O'Shea says while it's disappointing, he's hopeful their preperation for the championship opener against Waterford in March won't be affected.
