Doyle wins boxing title in Dublin

Ennis boxer Conor Doyle captured the 44 Kilo Boy 1 title at the Irish Juvenile Boxing Championships in the National Stadium in Dublin tonight with a 3-2 victory over Graham Dawson from the Furbo Club in Galway.

Doyle has been making steady progress through his first year in Championship boxing and saw off the challenges of the Ulster and Leinster Champions in his quarter and semi-final bouts before boxing exceptionally well in tonight’s final against the teak-tough Dawson. Doyle’s ability to overcome adversity has been his forte in these Championships and he used his left jab to claw his way back from a first round deficit to draw level and ultimately subdue the experienced Dawson.

Doyle’s win sets up the prospect of a hat-trick of titles for the Ennis Club , as Brian McDonagh 52 Kg and Keelan Sexton 70 Kg  will be in action in their respective finals this afternoon with hopes abounding of at least a second title to come.

Ennis native Paddy Donovan a noted handballer who boxes out of the OLOL Club in Limerick captured the 36 Kg Boy 1 title today after a great battle with G Rafter from Derrylin Co Fermanagh . It is the first title for the young southpaw who hopes to rejoin the Ennis Club in the coming season.

It is the Ennis Boxing Clubs 50th  anniversary this year and a hat-trick of Irish Titles would certainly embellish the celebrations for boxers and mentors alike.
