Fitzgerald: I never felt Allianz National Hurling League title was slipping away

Clare boss Davy Fitzgerald says he always had faith his players could turn the game around during their Allianz National Hurling League Final win.

A dramatic late double from joint captain Tony Kelly saw the Banner beat Waterford by a point to clinch the title for the first time in 38 years.

Both scores came late in injury time, and despite the Banner trailing by six points in the second half, Fitzgerald says he never felt the game had slipped away.

Meanwhile selector Donal Og Cusack says he feels the game will be the perfect preperation for the upcoming championship encounter.

The sides meet again on June 5th in the Munster Semi Final, and Cusack says they'll carry great momentum into that clash.

Waterford boss Derek McGrath says they allow themselves to blame the match officials for the loss.

Deise supporters expressed their unhappiness at the awarding of the late free to Clare which levelled the game, but McGrath says they cant get wrapped up in that.
