The All Ireland champions were dethroned after a thrilling battle with Wexford on Saturday evening, going down by 2-25 to 2-22 after extra time.

Fitzgerald has expressed his disappointment with various issues within Clare GAA, including the decision to play a round of club hurling fixtures in the lead up to the drawn game with Wexford.

When asked after Saturday's defeat if he intended to remain on as Clare hurling manager, the Sixmilebridge man said he would be taking time to consider his future.

Attention now turns to the counties U21 side, who are in Munster semi final action against Tipperary in Cusack Park on Wednesday evening as they bid to claim their third provincial title in a row.

Throw in is at 7.30pm.
