Fringe Players Must Be Protected If Rainbow Cup Is Shelved – Horan

One of Clare’s most high profile former rugby stars believes the sport will have to come up with a solution for its fringe players should the Rainbow Cup be cancelled.

The competition is due to begin in March once the PRO14 is completed, and will involve all of those sides along with four South African teams in a 16-round campaign.

There are fears that the format may now be shelved or pushed back due to the new variant of coronavirus circulated in South Africa.

Former Munster and Ireland prop and Clonlara man Marcus Horan says it may result in some players going as long as six months without competitive rugby.
