Shannon Gaels/Kilmihil are the county under 21A football champions.
Paul Reidy’s side beat St. Breckan’s 3-10 to 1-15 in an epic contest in Cusack Park today to win a first ever title for the amalgamation.
Goals from Gearoid O’Grady and Thomas Kelly in the opening 12 minutes gave them an early 2-3 to 0-2 advantage.
But St. Breckan’s overturned the deficit with Colm O’Brien, Joe McGann and Jamie Stack tallying before Jonah Culligan’s 29th minute goal gave them a 1-10 to 2-6 interval lead.
However, Niall Ellis struck a third goal for Shannon Gaels/Kilmihil within 60 seconds of the restart before Ciaran Downes made it 3-7 to 1-10.
Four unanswered St. Breckan’s scores overturned the deficit before the amalgamation responded and the contest looked destined for a replay.
But in the fourth minute of added time, Ciaran Downes struck the winning score to give Shannon Gaels/Kilmihil the county title.
