‘Well Run Dry’ On Clare GAA Finances

Clare GAA’s annual convention has been told the county board’s finances have now ‘run dry’.

Last night’s meeting was told funding has been severely impacted by COVID-19.

Treasurer Michael Gallagher told the Executive and club representatives last night that fundraising will be a “priority” for Clare GAA in 2021 as the battle to plug the hole in the association’s finances continues.

He admitted team expenses going forward are “a concern”, but suggested that it is necessary for Clare’s senior football and hurling teams to continue to compete at the highest level possible.

Commercial income and gate receipts were down by more than 50% in 2020, with Pat O Donnell contributing more than 90% of total sponsorship income.

It’s sure to be top of the new Chairman’s agenda – that’s Cratloe’s Jack Chaplin, who was elected to replace outgoing chair Joe Cooney.

Naomh Eoin’s Kieran Keating has been elected vice chair, with Tubber’s Michael Lee and Parteen’s Naoise Jordan to serve as joint Presidents after agreeing to share the position.
