Kelly named GAA Player of the week

Tony Kelly has been named the GAA Hurling Player of the week.

The Ballyea man was one of three Clare nominees for the title following the Banner’s All Ireland Senior Hurling Semi Final win over Limerick at the weekend.

Kelly finished ahead of team-mates Colin Ryan from Newmarket on Fergus and Tulla’s David McInerney.

1. Tony Kelly (Clare) – 272 votes (62%)
2. Colin Ryan (Clare) – 107 votes (24%)
3. David McInerney (Clare) – 63 votes (14%)

Kelly dominated the vote on both Facebook and Twitter, with his close to 70% support on Facebook driving him towards the prize.

The vote was tight between Ryan and McInerney, but Ryan’s greater following on Twitter saw him slip into second spot ahead of the Tulla man.

Players of the Week are decided based on votes cast by followers of @officialgaa on Twitter and on the Official GAA Facebook Page.
