Kilkenny Lift Liam McCarthy

Kilkenny are All Ireland Senior Hurling Champions for the sixth time in seven years.

Brian Cody’s men beat Galway by 3-22 to 3-11 in their replay at Croke Park to lift the Liam McCarthy for the 34th time.

Kilkenny were 4 points up at the break despite two goals from Galway’s David Burke.

Richie Power got the goal for Kilkenny in the first half.

Galway were reduced to 14 men in the 49th minute when Cyril Donnellan was shown a straight red card.

Walter Walsh scored 1-3 for Kilkenny on his Championship debut.

His replacement Cillian Buckley came off the bench to net the third goal for the Cats while Johnny Glynn scored the third goal for Galway.

Henry Shefflin who now has 9 All Ireland titles to his name ended the day with 9 points.

In the curtain raiser at Croke Park, Tipperary were crowned Minor Hurling Champions after they beat Dublin by 2-18 to 1-11 in their replay.

Mark McCarthy and Tadhg Gallagher scored the goals for Tipp while Oisin O’Rorke got a late consolation goal for the Dubs.
