McDonagh: Changes needed to structure of intercounty season

The chairman of Clare GAA has called on the national body to review how the Allianz Leagues and All Ireland Championships are structured.

Miltown clubman Michael McDonagh says he believes the preseason competition should be scrapped in favour of starting the Leagues earlier, with the All Ireland championship completed in the summer months.

He believes this would leave time for club championships to be completed uninterrupted, and would cater for both club and county players in an equal manner.

Mr McDonagh says the profile of the game wouldn't be affected by the move, and he feels there is little value in the pre season competitions such as the McGrath and Waterford Crystal Cups.
