McDonagh welcomes return of the Open Draw in Munster Football Championship

The chairman of Clare GAA is welcoming the return of the Open Draw to the Munster Football Championship.

It follows last years controversial decision by the Munster Council to seed Cork and Kerry in opposite sides of the semi final draw, which led the four so called weaker counties in Munster to withdraw from the McGrath Cup in protest.

The new structure will see the provincial finalists each year given a bye to the semi finals, but no seeding will be in operation for the semi final draw.

It means Clare will begin 2015 with a quarter final clash against either Limerick, Waterford or Tipperary.

Michael McDonagh says he's glad the provincial body has scrapped the Seeded Draw.
