‘Nash Free’ Appears To Be No More

Hurling may have seen the last of the so-called 'Nash free'.

The GAA has recommended emergency rule changes that will abolish the technique made famous by Cork goalkeeper Anthony Nash for penalties and close-range frees.

The GAA say that the free-taker will no longer be able to move inside the 20 metre line before striking his shot.

Also, the action of lifting the ball off the ground will no longer be classified as a 'strike', meaning that defenders will not be able to move off the goal-line until after the free-taker has his shot.

Cork manager Jimmy Barry-Murphy insists that the sudden change will have no impact on his side's preparations for Sunday's Munster semi-final against Clare.
