New charging system at Lees Road branded as fair

A new system which will apply a charge for the use of the the cross country running track at Lees Road in Ennis, though not for the runners themselves, has been described as fair.

Ennis Town Councillors have agreed that a 40 euro per hour charge should apply to a small area of the track which benefits from flood lighting on other facilities but the charges won’t apply to individuals who run or walk on the cross country route.

Councillors have heard that groups have been using some of the track area for training sessions, and availing of the light facilities on an unofficial basis.

The charge is in line with the fees for playing pitches, the synthetic running track and the all weather pitch at Lees Road.

Councillor Michael Guilfoyle, who is also involved in soccer locally, thinks it’s a good compromise
