The Sunderland player made the move after receiving death threats from Northern Ireland fans who are angered that he elected to play for the republic despite representing the North at under 21 level.
Mc Lean was included in the squad for Euro 2012 and received the threats after expressing his delight at being named, he also responded to abusers by mocking them about the North’s non qualification.
