Robust discussions at CDSL AGM

The Chairman of the Clare and District Soccer League admits it’s Committee deserves some of the criticisms levelled at it during last night’s Annual General Meeting.

All officers who sought to retain their places on the league Executive have been returned, however, despite often robust discussions.

Last night’s AGM of the Clare and District Soccer League gave club delegates an opportunity to air their views on a number of issues, including Connolly Celtic’s controversial exit from the Clare Cup.

Fixtures Secretary Michael Lydon, himself a Connolly member, and Munster delegate Thomas Leahy apologised for their roles in the incident which saw an ineligible player line out for the club in a Clare Cup game against Kilkishen Celtic.
Connolly were ultimately thrown out of the competition and fined as punishment.

While the executive were sometimes criticised for the way this was handled, Chairman of the CDSL Donie Garrihy felt the discussion was good for the league.

Donie Garrihy was returned as Chairman, unopposed, as were secretary Oliver Fitzpatrick, Treasurer Michael McInerney Munster Delegate Thomas Leahy and PRO Gerry Scanlan.

Michael Lydon was also returned as Fixtures Secretary, beating Donal Kirby 27 – 21 in a vote, and said he ‘hoped to put right what was done wrong.’

Frank Healy was named Vice Chairman and Frank Gormley Registrar, replacing Paul Tuohy and Leo Murphy respectively, while Mark Egan of Bridge United and Tulla’s Barry Murphy were elected onto the committee.

Discussion on the 19 motions was adjourned, and another meeting will be held for those in the coming weeks.
