Saturday sports round up

Starting with gaa and Clonlara have edged their way into the U21 hurling championship q-finals after a 2 point win over Cratloe today by 2-11 to 15 points.

The game was the first meeting between the two sides who lined up in last years senior county final and Cratloe led at half time by 10 points to 1-5 despite having conceded a goal from Darach Honan in the opening 20 seconds.

Cathal O Connor free in the final moments deceived the Cratloe goalkeeper  and ended up in the net and Clonlara  hung for a 2 point win.

Elsewhere  Clarecastle beat Broadford/O Callaghan’s Mills by 1-13 to 13 points while Inagh Kilnamona beat Clooney Quinn 3-6 to 9 points.

The holders Sixmilebridge are also  through to the next round after they beat newmarket On Fergus by  2-16 to 1-7.

in Ladies football news the clare side went down to Donegal today in ballyshannon by 1-17 to 3-8 while it was better news for the U14’s as they beat Limerick in the Munster championship by 7-11 to 1-5.

Clare’s Yvonne Tracy has been named in the Republic of Ireland senior women’s soccer squad for a testing trip to Tel Aviv where they will face Israel on Sunday, March 21.

Finally in athlethics there was disappointment for Clare man Tim Crowe today as the Irish mens 4x 400 metre relay team failed to qualify for the finals at the world indoor championships in Doha.
