The Clarecastle native tendered his resignation to the Clare County Board last evening and it was accepted.

He had been expected to step down  in the wake of last Saturday’s 17 point loss to Galway in the All Ireland qualifier.

Speaking to Clare FM earlier this week following the weekend’s disappointing defeat to Galway – Ger O’Loughlin said he would step aside if it was in the interests of Clare Hurling

In a statement to Clare FM, The Clare County GAA Board has now confirmed with much regret that Sparrow has decided to step down as Senior Hurling  Manager. – based on what they described as the fact that a new voice and approach is in the best interests of Clare Hurling going forward into the future.

The county board conveyed its deep appreciation to Ger O’Loughlin  for his work, commitment and dedication to the job over the past two seasons and sincerely thanked him and his family for the time and effort he gave during his tenure.
