Trap defends managerial record

Giovanni Trapattoni has launched a strong defence of his Irish managerial record and he and the Irish squad prepare to return home from Euro 2012.

The Irish squad is due to touch down in Dublin Airport later this evening after a disappointing campaign that saw them suffer three defeats from three games, conceding nine goals and scoring just one in return.

Trapattoni says he was right to show faith with the players that helped us to qualify for the tournament – and added that he’s not yet aware of any retirements from the panel.

Despite Ireland’s exit, Euro2012 continues tonight, with Group D down for decision.

England will face tournament co-hosts Ukraine in Donetsk while Sweden meet France in Kiev.
