Tributes to late Tipperary Hurlers

Thousands of people are expected to attend the funeral of former Tipperary hurler John Doyle at Hollycross Abbey tomorrow morning at 11:30am.

The eight time All-Ireland winner died at the age of 80 yesterday, with tributes led by Taoiseach Brian Crown.

Meanwhile, the death has occured of the former Tipperary hurler Jimmy ‘Butler’ Coffey at the age of 101.

The Newport native won an All-Ireland medal at wing-forward in 1937 against Kilkenny, marking the legendary Paddy Phelan in a game played in Killarney due to on-going work to Croke Park.

He also collected a Railway Cup medal in 1938 on a star studded Munster team which included Jack Lynch.
