Varley excluded from Six Nations training panel

Killaloe’s Damien Varley will play no part for Ireland in their opening Six Nations clash with Wales on Saturday.

The hooker, who came on as a sub in Ireland’s Wolfhounds loss to England Saxons on Friday night, has been omitted from the 33 man training panel announced by Declan Kidney for the game.

A total of nine Munster men have been named in the squad, but there’s no room for young Connacht full-back Robbie Henshaw.

The team to face the Welsh will be announced tomorrow afternoon.

Meanwhile, Clonlara man and Munster prop Marcus Horan says he believes more top Irish players could follow Johnny Sexton to France.

The Leinster out-half is to leave the province at the end of the season, and it’s believed he’s agreed a deal to join Paris-based Racing Metro.

Horan has told Clare FM that he believes more players could follow Sexton, though he believes the number 10 is making the right move.
