Vice Captain Of Clare Senior Hurlers Hopes For Winning Start To 2016

In hurling, a vice captain of the Clare Senior Hurlers is hoping for a winning start to 2016, saying it could be key when Championship rolls around.

Along with his team-mates, Newmarket's Colin Ryan is back preparing for the new season under manager Davy Fitzgerald and the new-look coaching team, including ex-Cork goalkeeper Donal Og Cusack.

After relegation last year, Clare will play in Division 1B of the National League as they build up to the Championship opener against Waterford.

Ryan is hoping they can produce strong early-season form that they can use as a platform next summer.

Meanwhile, Clare boss Davy Fitzgerald will be among the guests on today's edition of Morning Focus here on Clare FM.

Elsewhere, a major fundraising event for Clare's inter-county hurling squads, from Under-14 to senior, takes place on Bank Holiday Monday night.

The Race Night event takes place at Treacy's West County Hotel from 7:00, and speakers on the night include Donal Óg Cusack and also fellow former All-Star Eoin Kelly of Tipperary.
