Ombudsman Says Concerns About Direct Provision Centres Haven’t Transpired

The Ombudsman says concerns about direct provision centres opening in rural areas haven’t transpired.

There’s been local opposition to a disused hotel in Oughterard, Co. Galway being used to house asylum seekers.

Another protest against the plans is expected this weekend.

Ombudsman Peter Tyndall has been to a number of direct provision centres, including Lisdoonvarna where he visited last week.

He says many of the concerns aren’t justified:
